Fuelling my candle addiction

Once the excitement, karaoke and party poppers had died down from our New Years Eve party I found some energy from somewhere, heavens knows how I mustered up even the tiniest bit, and I wrote a post about what was under my christmas tree on Christmas morn and the selection of candles I had received.

       ^
I want to take you back to this candle in particular from a brand I wasn't at all  familiar with, in fact never heard of, Aquiesse. I LOVE candles, I mean love them, to the point where I think I might be ever so slightly addicted. Is there a help group for candle addiction? Think you better send me the number quick!

As you can obviously see from the shot below I got the White grapefruit Acai one, which is mind blowing, well I think so anyway, and it's jumped straight to the top of my favourites list. The white grapefruit has fresh, zesty top notes but its sophisticated too. My first lighting of this candle was on 1st Jan. I popped it on my hearth and carried on pottering as you do. When I came back into the room, woah, the smell was A-MAZING and really took me by surprise. In a word Exquisite. I wasn't expecting it to fill my room so quickly. Aquiesse say they are designed to quickly infuse your space with just the right amount of fragrance, which they certainly do, using the purest natural wax, top quality oils and lead free wicks for a clean burn.

Well, being the addict that I am I wanted another one, had to have another one, what if I burnt all of this one and I couldn't get another one of the same fragrance? With palpitations and hot sweats (is there a candle addiction 12 step programme?) I persuaded my dealer husband to tell me where he got it. He couldn't refuse. "Yo bitch, I'll take you to my supplier right now!" Hmmm, perhaps I've been watching too much Breaking Bad just lately. I didn't need telling twice, and as Mr C knows I am a want-it-right-now kinda girl, we were in the car and speeding off to town before he could change his mind!

To save parking, and time, I didn't want anyone else getting their mucky paws on my candle, Mr C dropped me right outside the store. I ran to the shelf, slightly out of breath, which may have something to do with the fact I ate my own body weight in cheese and chocolate over Christmas, never mind, and there it was. The last one sitting on the shelf. They had other fragrances but it had to be another one of the same, as I am truly a citrus girl, I'm not much into florals, although let it be known, right here, right now, I am absolutely up for adding to my growing collection and trying them what with Spring around the corner and all that!

Oh look, my little baby Aquiesse candle has got a mommy! How did that happen? Well, Mr C told me that under no circumstances am I to come out of the store with more than one candle. I didn't. There was a bit of dilemma you see. The candles were now reduced in the sale, and alongside baby Aquiesse was mommy. A candle twice the size. With "don't come out with more than one" ringing in my ears, I made the 'more economical decision' to buy the bigger one. It was the right thing to do. Thankfully Mr C agreed with my decision and didn't send me marching back in there to swop it!
These candles not only smell great, well, they are blended by world class perfumers, and granted I've only smelt the one, but they are aesthetically pleasing too, with a beautifully designed glass jar and lid, that fit and look good in your home. They come in a wonderful box so would make a great gift too if you're feeling generous. You can check out the Aquiesse.com website here and they do other home fragrance and body products too (dangerous). If you look on the internet you'll find UK stockists.

Aquiesse are on the expensive side, but so are most good quality candles, and as the saying goes, you get what you pay for, right? I hope that one day my budget will stretch to another in the range but for now I am more than happy and in blissful heaven every time I light it.

What's your favourite brand right now? As you know I'm a citrus girl, what's your preferred candle fragrance?

  5. If you like Citrus scents you need to head to anthropologie and check out Capri Blue candles, in the scent "Volcano." They are amazing! I've tried Acquiesse and I enjoy their Luxe Linen scent. But Volcano would be a good one for you too, and not as expensive. It's $28 for a 20oz jar that burns for 80 hrs. Anthropologie also carries Voluspa candles. I think you will like their Santiago Huckleberry as well as Goji Tarocco Orange scents. Goodluck, fellow candle addict!
