Your 5 || Highcross Leicester beauty & fashion event

Today I was invited along to Highcross Leicester for their Your 5 beauty and fashion event where fashion stylists were on hand to help you shake up your wardrobe and make up artists to help find a look that works best for you. The event is on today and tomorrow and is totally free! You can choose between fashion and beauty. To be honest it was a tough choice for me but I didn't really want a makeover in full view of all and sundry so opted for fashion.

I have so many items in my wardrobe that I just don't wear and I've always loved the idea of a capsule wardrobe but am too scared to take the plunge, but today I was dipping my toe in to find 5 key pieces that will work for me, can be styled in many different ways, worn casual or dressed up for a night on the town.

My stylist was the lovely Rachel and she talked me through the items on each rack encouraging me to  pick a piece that would work with items of clothing I already have.

The first rail was the cropped trouser with Rachel politely informing me that the culottes would not work for me as I'm too short (tell me something I don't know!) but that the khaki satin tapered trousers would be perfect. They're not something I would have picked up but really liked them and went to Next to get myself some after my style session but they didn't have my size. I sobbed. I tried the next size up and although they were mahoosive they looked bloody fab. Damn, Rachel knows her stuff!

My selected 5

Next up was the shirt and I opted for this one from Karen Millen, trust me to go for the most expensive, although Karen Millen have 25% off at the mo. Good choice as Rachel pointed out, as not too long in the body (for us shorties) and if you've no boobs like me (God, I don't have much going for me do I?) then the ruffles give the illusion you have a bit more that you do! Give me all the ruffles.

My jacket choice was between two, again the two most expensive, this one from Hobbs and the other was Ted Baker and very Chanel inspired.

Option 4 was silk and I chose a beautiful one from Phase Eight in what I call an oyster shade, great to wear with jeans or dress up for a night out, it really is a versatile piece. Last were the sneakers, with my choice being the baby blue/light grey? ones from Aldo. They have velcro fastening and gold buckling on the straps which for me takes them away from looking too much like trainers which I'm not a fan of (apart from in the gym).

You can see the pieces I selected have a more neutral palette, I'm not a fan of bold statement colours. These 5 pieces would transform my wardrobe and totally refresh it, sadly I can't afford everything right now but Rachel and our lengthy chat (booked for 10 mins, more like 20) has given me some food for thought and straight after this I'm ordering my khaki tapered trousers online from NEXT.

All the bookable appointments have been taken for tomorrow but they may be able to squeeze in some walk ins so if you're in town go along and ask. They'll talk you through all the key trends this season and help you find what works for you and don't  worry about remembering everything, they'll email you Your 5.

What do you think to my choices?
