Ladies day at Nottingham races

I'm a little later than I'd hoped posting this one, sorry and all that. A couple of weeks back we trotted off (pardon the pun) to Ladies day at Nottingham race course with friends Sarah and Mike. Ok, so it's not quite Ladies Day at Royal Ascot (still hoping to get there again this year!) but it was a brilliant day, helped along by the sunny weather.

As with every day out Mr C made sure we started it in style with the usual fizz in the back of the car for us ladies. He's a keeper alright!

I wasn't sure what to wear to be honest, as with Ascot you REALLY go to town with the frock and hat but didn't want to be overdressed for this, so in the end I plumped for my white dress from GAP, which is classy but casual all at the same time and popped on my Primark beach hat!!! I worried no-one would be wearing a hat but I had to regardless as I'd had my second collagen pin treatment just two days before so no way was my face allowed in the sun.

Personally I think the beach hat works well with the frock, rather classy if I do say so myself. What do you think?

We needn't have worried about hats and dresses as everyone had gone to town more than I thought they would actually, I think because it was a warm sunny day everyone really made an effort, I think it would have been a totally different story if it had been dull or raining.

Fizz was flowing, sun was out and bets were placed. However, we didn't even have a sniff! Mike and Sarah won on four, may have even been five races, jammy sods!

As well as the racing there was a live band and a fashion show.

Hmmm....not sure I'd wear any of the items but whatever takes your fancy I guess.

It was busier than I thought it would be and there was a great atmosphere. The rain held off too, Emily rang me from home and said the rain was torrential in Leicester, we could actually see it in the distance but thank goodness it didn't come our way. Something to make you laugh, during that conversation about the weather, Emily casually slipped in "oh and by the way mum, I've just had my nipple pierced!" Any thoughts on my reaction? Yep, I nearly spluttered my overly priced prosecco into my phone!

After the races we stayed in Nottingham to eat and Mr C took us to a fab Indian restaurant called The Calcutta Club, a place he's visited on many an occasion.

The food was utterly delicious and the staff so attentive and polite. We'd not booked and they were busy but managed to squeeze us in and I'm so glad they did. They could only let us have the table for a short while so I'd love to go back when it's not so rushed.

All in all a spiffing day, no winners for Mr C and I but hey ho, you can't have everything can you?

Have you been to the races?
