When my virtual blogger friend became my real friend

Heather, my sister from another mister, and I started chatting a couple of years ago I think, maybe longer and if I remember rightly our communications started on Twitter, tell me if I'm wrong Heather.  I wrote a post a little while back titled Blogger friends, virtual or reality (you can read that here) and it was about the fact that as bloggers we have many virtual friends but a select few that also turn into real life ones too. Heather is one of those. I wasn't sure we'd ever get to meet as we did arrange a few meet ups but they had to be cancelled for various reasons, we've now met in real actual life.

We've emailed back and forth many times updating each other on our lifes happenings, with me struggling to keep up with Heathers half the time (don't ask) and mine being rather boring in comparison! It's funny, right from the very beginning I knew we would become the best of friends, we just clicked and as the months went on we realised how alike we actually were. We just get each other. I'm quite a few years older than Heather, actually a lot of years, but that doesn't make me the grown up in our relationship, far from it!

When Heather asked if we would like to celebrate her birthday with her and her hubby Mark, in SPAIN of all places, staying at their gorgeous pad, we were packing within five minutes of pinging back our big fat YES on WhatsApp! Who needs to think twice about that kinda question. No brainer.

We kept talking about how excited we were to meet for the very first time, about how we would drink copious amounts of wine, sitting in the sunshine and talk all things blogging.

As the day drew nearer Mr C and I were excited but also a little nervous, not anxious but there was that thought of "what if we don't get on in real life?" or "what if the husbands don't get on?" because that was a big risk too. I'd seen Mark being witty and funny in various 'snapchats' and heard Heather talk of him so much, but it's weird I just knew the men were similar too, like it was all just meant to be. We all shared the same excitement and nervousness, I mean the risk was bigger for Heather and Mark because they were inviting what were essentially total strangers into their home.

We did joke with our friends over here that they could be swingers or murderers for all we know, turns out Heather and Mark had similar thoughts about us. I did check the crisp bowl every time just in case any keys were lurking at the bottom :)

But, do you know what, from the minute we all met at Alicante airport it felt like we'd been friends for a very long time. I think a huge relief for us all. Mark said to Nick the next day, that as soon as he met him at the airpot he knew he liked him and that they'd get on, isn't that the nicest?

The sun shone for us as Mark and Heather took us to all the places they love, we drank, we laughed, we ate and then laughed some more, in fact we never stopped laughing the whole time we were together. Nick and Mark got on so well, calling themselves brothers from another mother, copycats, and they had a bit of a bromance thing going on. Sweet.

The conversation was always easy, never any awkward silences, it just flowed. We talked about life in general, work, travel, and in that short space of time we shared so much about our lives with each other, even intimate surprising things hey Heather, we crammed so much in, jeez, we can't have shut up at any point! The surprising thing was that we didn't talk about blogging and that's the biggest thing Heather and I have in common, apart from a tiny snippet when we were out for dinner on the Saturday evening, that's testament to that fact that we got on so well and had so much fun that blogging didn't enter our heads much.

And......that's why there's not many photos of the whole weekend, we were having way too much fun!blogging friends Spain Alicante Priceless Life of Mine Over40 lifestyle blog
We went shopping, filled our faces at a cracking little tapas bar, and sat soaking up the winter sunshine whilst having a little tipple down at the marina.

Bliss.

All too soon Sunday rolled around and we had to say our goodbyes, blowing kisses and waving as we headed to our separate departure gates with very sad faces :(

Heather and Mark are moving to Spain permanently around Easter time which makes me sad in a way as having now met it would have been easier just to 'pop' down south to meet up every now and then and do blogger stuff down in London too, but I know the move to Spain is what they want desperately and I guess 'popping' to Spain every now and then is no hardship is it?! If we must. Lol.

As I said in my previous post about blogger friends, we have many that help, encourage and inspire us, lots of them will remain virtual friends but it goes to show you doesn't it that a true long lasting friendship can come from it and I know many other bloggers who have also found true friends.

Heather, my sister from another mister, you're a babe and I love you as much as I thought I would.

Thank you for having us guys, it was an absolute blast, and can't wait to do it all again and repeat the laughter and total silliness. Soon.

And by the way, because I'm sure you're wondering, Heather blogs over at Suncream and Sparkles and you should go check out her blog right now!

I met my best friend 26 years ago in a nightclub, most people meet a fella in a club, I meet a bestfriend lol. I hope to meet some blogger friends eventually, not that I have many yet, but the ones I do have seem bloomin fab!

  3. This is such a lovely story. It's brilliant that your husbands got on too. Glad to hear there were no keys in the crisp bowl!! Ha ha. I'm off to Alicante in a couple of weeks to have a look around as we want to get a villa (I mean apartment more like) in Spain too. I wasn't meant to live in a cold country so hoping to emigrate! Anyway Steph, sometimes I think it's quicker and cheaper to get to Spain than it is places in the UK so I'm sure you guys will meet up again soon. : ) xxxx
