Face masks I'm using right now

One of the great things in life is a good old 'at home' pamper session, Let's face it, not all of us can afford costly trips to a salon but we can afford to give ourselves a bit of TLC in the comfort of our own home. A hot bubble bath followed by a mani, pedi, face scrub, then pop on a face mask and relax, pure bliss. It should be a once a week ritual at least because taking time out for yourself is good for the body and the soul.

I've got a few masks on the go at the moment, I like to alternate because my skins never the same from one day to the next, so I thought I'd tell you about the ones I'm currently using.

First up is one from Exuviance, their Bionic Oxygen facial in a bottle. I was kindly given this one when I attended the Blogger Conference in London a few months back (along with a few of their other products too) and I was excited to give it a whirl.

Said to detoxify and revitalise dull, stressed skin, containing pure essential oxygen to help restore a healthy and radiant complexion. Promises a lot this one!

This comes out of the pump as a blue gel and turns into a white foam, leave for 5 minutes to let it foam up and the oxygen do its thing. This is a weird one but in a good way, it tickles, it pops, it fizzes all over your face and can be hard to bear for some, on my first go with it I referred to it being like ants crawling over your face, but it's just the bubbles popping and you know it's working. Once the foam has disappeared you then wash it off.

This is by far one of my favourite masks. My skin feels so smooth and revitalised immediately after taking it off, more like I've had a treatment in a spa or salon. When I first tried it, it was the next morning when I truly noticed a remarkable difference. My skin looked alive when I woke up, bright, and definitely more radiant. This mask delivers on all its promises in my book.

I don't have any problems with it at all, once I get over the tickle, but then I do go pretty hardcore with my skincare so don't find it harsh, BUT sensitive skins might have to build up to this one. You can purchase it here

Let's talk about Temple Spa. A brand I've just gotten into only recently. One of the first products I
tried was their Exalt neck cream, which you can read about here and then I tried Life Defence.

They kindly sent me a couple of masks to try out.

Trufflesque* is GOLD!!! And it feels so luxurious on the skin. This is an anti-aging mask packed with powerful ingredients that has been clinically proven to boost hydration and improve radiance. Made with black summer truffles, gold and silk peptides and a fruit amino acid, it works its magic to leave you with plumper, more lifted, hydrated and smooth skin. Yes please to all of those benefits.

You apply a generous amount and relax for 15-20 minutes. You do get a brush to apply this with but to be honest I prefer using my fingers, I just find with the brush you put some on and then with the next stroke you take some off again, each to their own. I can't put my finger on what the scent is in this one but I'm not overly keen on the fragrance, it doesn't put me off using it though because it's not unpleasant in any way, don't get me wrong, just a bit too strong for me.

The Trufflesque leaves you with soft and hydrated skin and when I looked in the mirror the first time I was so pleased with how clear my skin looked and that my open pores seemed more refined, although temporarily I know!

Now, sheet masks are the in thing right now aren't they? Everywhere you turn there's a blogger modelling one, doing a grand impression of Hannibel Lecter and I'm no different when wearing my sheet mask, The Contourist*. Don't worry there's no pic coming up, you'll have to watch me on insta stories for those.

I've tried sheet masks before (here) and I really like them. With an ordinary face mask, if you don't want to relax, although you should, you can walk around and get on with stuff, however, a sheet mask kinda makes you sit back and relax as you want to keep it firmly in place.

This mask helps to define and contour the face, obviously, but also helps to brighten, lift and target fine lines. Some sheet masks can be a bit tricky and all 'sticky' when you're trying to peel the backing off but I have no problems with these. They're super easy to apply. Some you have to lie still, you can't even sit up as they slip and slide all over your face but The Contourist has loops that you put over your ears to keep it all in place. Neat hey?!

You relax and leave on for 20-30 minutes. Now I like this mask, my face felt a little plumper and a little bit lifted. They claim it remodels your face giving you an instant face lift but I wouldn't go that far but it does leave my skin revived, and with a healthy glow.

I've been using the Liz Earle brightening treatment mask for years now and still love it so wanted to throw it in the mix.

It's a fast acting botanical mask that contains camphor oil and witch hazel and instantly revitalises and brightens your skin. It's that simple. I love it and will continue to use it. I use this one in the morning though, unlike the others, as I feel it really wakes up my skin for the day and gives it a natural radiant glow. I love the smell too, it reminds me of coca-cola, it doesn't smell like coca-cola, just reminds me of it, if that makes any sense at all?! Hmm.....

So there you have it, a round up of current face masks. Thing is I'm in that age bracket now where I need a mask that is multi tasking, not one specifically for spots, or specifically for dry skin but one that tackles it all, lines, wrinkles, dehydration, lack of radiance and firmness, I've got it all going on!

These are more at the luxury end, 'splurge' items I admit, but if you think about how many uses and pamper sessions you'll get out of them then they're worth it. Having said that I also get the most amazing results from a Lush mask that I've raved about no end recently (right here) which is a fraction of the price.

I'm under no illusion that any of these masks will help with any long term anti-aging, your serious, serious skincare like your retinols, vitamin C and acids are more for that, these offer help on a temporary basis but make you feel good and give your skin a boost.

If you're interested in any of the masks they're all linked.

What's your favourite face mask right now?
