Feeling sexy in your forties and beyond, over 40 style

Over 40 is not over the hill and certainly does not mean you have to pack away the sexy underwear. Far from it.

I know, sexy is not just about the clothing you wear, it's also about what's in the mind and how you feel inside, that sexy attitude and all that. I also know that sometimes it's hard to feel sexy, and that doesn't matter what age you are, that sexy attitude inside is all but dead and buried when you have piles of laundry to sort, kids to run here and there, a business to run, work deadlines, never mind about a blog to write! And, who the hell feels sexy in sweatpants and t-shirt sporting splashes of last nights dinner?!

BUT.......it's important that every now and then we get that sexy back. Make the effort. It doesn't necessarily have to be for your partner. Do it for you.

Lingerie is a sure fire way to make you feel sexy and there's so much choice these days. It doesn't have to be lacy and racy, it can be simple and comfortable, if you want body shaping lingerie, then go for it, as long as it makes you feel good you're onto a winner.

I'm putting my hands up right now to say I don't wear matching underwear everyday. If I'm in a rush to get out the door I'll just grab whatever bra and knickers I can lay my hands on and Nick will laugh and say "mix and match is it again today then?". The thing is when I do make the effort and put on that matching set, I feel bloody good.

Black is more often that not my go to for underwear and adding feminine extras like this lace kimono* can seriously ramp up the sexiness which I'm sure your partner will appreciate! This one is so pretty and feminine and so lovely to wear. It's from the Doutzen range at Hunkemoller and if you fancy going all out they have matching lingerie sets too. You should take a look at their website because they have some seriously super sexy pieces.

This particular lingerie set is from good old M&S. If you're happy with high street, and I certainly am, then you can't go wrong. They have literally everything, from separates to sets, silks, satins, whatever type of sexy you're after, they'll have it I'm sure.

It's so easy for women to loose their sexy side with the everyday stresses that life brings along, and the day to day mundane stuff that we get lost in, but put on that lipstick, the expensive perfume, those heels, whatever it may be and feel good about yourself.

The thing is, just be you. If you don't feel the need to wear a sexy matching set, then don't, if you prefer to save sexy for the bedroom then do that. Hunkemoller certainly have lots of bedroom sexiness available.

Sexy doesn't just have to be about what you're wearing underneath. Sexy goes for clothing too, okay, so we're not going to be wearing mini skirts or the revealing tops like we did in our twenties but with age comes the experience of knowing what looks good clothing wise, that alone gives you a certain type of confidence doesn't it, and that's sexy! Putting on that killer outfit that makes you hold your head up high, walk in a certain way, that's powerful, confident and sexy all in one fabulous package. I for one am more confident and happy in myself and my appearance than I ever was in my twenties. I like to feel sexy in my clothes, when I'm going out, obviously not on a daily basis for work, although a racy set of underwear under a dull, boring work suit can make you feel a million dollars, but definitely when I go 'out out' and I'll be honest, more often than not I do it for myself and the way it makes me feel, not for my husband.

I have to say I was a bit wary of putting myself out there with this post, I'm in my underwear after all, and like most women I've got lots of insecurities, but I do hope this post comes across as tasteful with a dose of sexy thrown in, and I've lost count of the amount of times I've used the word SEXY but's that's what this post is about!

Please remember, and remind yourself constantly that you're amazing, you're beautiful, and you deserve to feel sexy in and out of the bedroom.

We may be in those mid life years but we've still got it!
