Ragdale Hall evening spa experience | Leicestershire

Who doesn't love a spa?

Bet there's not many of you with your hands up!

The chance to unwind and de-stress, and have some well deserved 'me time' is just the best. In today's society it's so hard to switch off isn't it? To just relax, and be in the moment. More often than not we finish work for the day, and then get engrossed in the world that is social media, not that we've not been on it practically all day anyway!!! Guilty as charged your honour. Come on, you're the same aren't you?

So, when I was invited to Ragdale Hall health hydro and spa* with Emmie from Carpe Diem Emmie, I  did a little happy dance.

Ragdale Hall, one of the leading spas in the UK is very close to where I live, yet I've never been. How ridiculous is that?! It's situated in the Leicestershire countryside, in the most stunning Victorian country house. It's one of the most luxurious and relaxing health spas in the country. We were invited along for their evening spa experience which is 6.30pm-9.30pm.  If you're new to a spa, or don't have much time to spare, yet still want to chill with a loved one, or friend then this is the perfect option for you. You get full use of all the spa facilities, including the thermal spa and also included is a two course meal in the Verandah bar.

We arrived at 6.30pm, registered and were shown to the changing facilities. In a jiffy (we had no time to waste) we slipped into something more comfortable, AKA fluffy white robe and flip flops and we were off to explore.

Let me tell you about the facilities here, some of the best fitness and spa facilities not just in the UK but Europe as well. There's something for everyone, there really is. Whether you want to just relax and be pampered, or you're that gym bunny and want to go full pelt on the equipment and enjoy the various exercise classes, they've got you covered. They even have tennis courts and cycles if you fancy a ride out.

The thermal spa is the real gem here, well, for me anyway and we made a beeline for that first.

Now, I'm going to make you laugh. You know how I started off saying you come here to switch off and leave your phone and the madness that is everyday life behind, well, yep, I had mine tucked away in my dressing gown pocket! I know, I know, wrong on all levels, BUT you wanted photos didn't you? On that note, apologies for the not so great pics but I could hardly sneak my big camera in could I!

We started our relaxation journey in the outdoor/indoor waterfall pool. I loved this part and it's just magical in the evening, We sat for a while and chatted, then moved on, leaving some of our stresses behind.

We went into the candle pool, a 34 degree magical cavern covered with mosaic tiles, flickering candles and a star lit ceiling, it's like a great big, warm bathtub. Bliss

I love dry saunas and the rose sauna was fab, great for the detoxing effect. I feel like all the badness oozes out of my pores and I could stay in them for ages, which would not be good from a health perspective but they're good for my aching bones. Perhaps Mr C will install one at home?

There are too many experiences in the thermal spa alone to talk about so you'll have to go and check them out for yourself on the website

Before too long you have to drag yourself away from the adult indoor playground that is the spa and head off in search of food.

The Verandah bar, which is where you eat with this particular package, is really pretty and has a lovely homely feel to it.

I cannot deny that there was a great choice on the menu, in fact we were both spoilt for choice but I opted for the fish and chips and Emmie a burger. I have to say, because I need to be honest here, that the batter on the fish was a little on the soggy side and the chips were only just cooked. A little disappointing but sadly I didn't have time to get it changed as our meal was booked for 8.15pm and we would have been pushed to get finished in time for our 9.30pm departure. Emmie's burger was mouthwateringly good, and the desserts more than made up for a soggy fish!!

We literally finished our food drink just before the clock struck 9.30pm. I would have liked to have stayed in my dressing gown whilst eating, it's part of the whole experience right? But, we knew we wouldn't have the time to spare to get back to the changing rooms after eating without giving ourselves severe indigestion.

Three hours is too short a time to get around all the facilities, we didn't even get to experience half of them in thermal spa, and felt we were rushing a little BUT.......the evening spa experience is great if you're dipping your toe into the spa world for the first time, it certainly leaves you wanting more and makes you want to plan your return visit straight away. I would also advise to get there just before 6.30pm as registering eats into your short relaxation time. There is however a different evening package that starts from 4.30pm giving you that extra time, and I think that's certainly needed.

Ragdale Hall have so many different package options available from evenings, days packages to a full spa break for a few days. They've got some fabulous offers so click here to go over to the website and check them out.

They also sell gift vouchers, starting from £25 and would be ideal as a stocking filler or a main present. They can send them or if you live locally you can pop in. Link here

Forget the outside world for a wee while and go re-charge your batteries and your mind.

I've been to other spas and Ragdale is right up there. I definitely want to go back. An overnight is probably out of my reach right now, but I'd love to go for the day and perhaps have a treatment.

I want to go soon. Who's coming with me?

*complimentary visit in return for review.
