Goals and aspirations for 2016

I'm not a very positive person, very pessimistic indeed shall we say, and I hate myself for it, it's a good job my husband is the total opposite to me, but come New Years day something comes over me and I always have this real positive feeling inside which excites me for the brand new 365 days that lay ahead. My mind's overly active with grand ideas about my blog, a small business, travel, home, you name it, it's all whizzing around in that little brain of mine but whether any of them will come to fruition is another matter. It's highly likely they won't, I mean 'highly' likely! Probably never likely in the next five years never mind this one! It's funny, my goals and ideas for 2016 seem very similar to the ones for 2015! I'm positive about it all one minute, and the next I'm all like "who the hell am I kidding?", I just can't help this stinking thinking as my husband calls it, it's in my DNA. BUT..........we've all got to have goals in life haven't we? On that note I'd thought I'd share mine with you, thinking that if I write them down here in black and white I've got to try my hardest, not that I don't of course but life just sometimes gets in the way which I'm sure you totally get!

1. Grow this little blog of mine
In the grand scheme of things I've not been writing this blog for that long but I'd really like it grow and get bigger and better. This is probably the only goal I really achieved in 2015, albeit a little bit but it was growth nonetheless. I want to write more posts, meet more bloggers and attend more events. Helps to be invited to them first which I find is the hardest thing, how on earth to people find me? I'm quite shy by nature so all of these things push me outside of my comfort zone. Oh, and I want to grow my social media following too, which I'm not too sure how to do but I'll definitely work on it. Managing my time better also comes under this category. I'm a procrastinator not a doer, despite writing millions of To-do lists. I'll sit down to type a post and get so easily distracted by everything else I have open, what's going on in the world of Facebook, catching up on Instagram, who's tweeting what, and before I know it my day has gone without a single post or a single photograph. This has to stop. Time management is key to the success of number 1 and it's time to focus. I'll let you in on a little secret. I had to get my son up today at 6.45am and rather than go back to bed (despite a shitty nights sleep) I stayed up to write this without being distracted by one single thing on my computer. I CAN do it.

2. Develop my photography
This goes hand in hand with number 1 obviously. Up until about October time I was taking my blog photos on my iPhone, but then my wonderful husband surprised me with an Olympus Pen E-PL7 and I thought all my rubbish photography would be a thing of the past. Not quite. Now, whilst I do take some great shots with my new camera I probably take the same amount of crappy ones too. I just don't understand a lot of it. My aim is to get to grips with all it's functions and learn all about ISO, aperture and all that jazz. Maybe go on a course?

3. Set up a small business
No biggie, would just like to run my own little business from home thats all! The problem comes when you're not 100% sure what it is you want to do. My brain is working on this one, I'll keep you posted.

4. Exercise/get healthy
This is a hard one. I'm lazy. There I've said it. I'm not a lazy person, just lazy when it comes to exercise because I just do not like it. I wish I did. I wish I could be one of those people that get up at silly o'clock to pound the pavements or the treadmill but I'd rather have that extra half hour of beauty sleep that makes no difference to my appearance whatsoever. In my defence it is tricky sometimes as I don't feel up to it with my poor arthritic bones but I can't use that as an excuse as a couple of years ago, don't know how it happened, I did lots of classes at the gym AND I actually enjoyed them. I lost a stone in weight, felt healthier and fitter than I'd done in years and the real benefit was that it helped my aching joints. I need to get back to this point as I've got a big event coming up in the summer in London where I'm likely to be photographed and I want to look my best. It's not that I would rather sit on my ass, I'm always on the go and feel guilty for sitting down for one minute on my own sofa just incase anyone's watching, but I just cant be arsed!!!!! Time to change that.

5. Travel more
When I say travel more, I mean travel full stop. We do have a main holiday in the summer but we've been to the same place for a good few years now and that needs to change, we need to broaden our horizons. I did travel when I was very young as I worked in the travel industry but the world is a big place and I'd love to experience some of it with my husband. Talking of my husband he is hoping to start up a blog too about things outdoorsy so it would be totally amazing to do some travel posts together. Travel companies, hotels, airlines, if you're listening we're all ears!

6. Save some money
I know, I know, this does not work with goals 1, 3 and 5, especially 5, in fact probably all of them really as they'll all require me to part with some cash at some point. I'll probably have to cut back on shopping to save a bit, but then that's difficult as I need to spend to support some of my blog posts and..... shopping is good therapy when you hate yourself because you've eaten that large packet of biscuits instead of going to the gym!! Any ideas on how I can spend and save at the same time much appreciated. Ta.

So, yeah, I'm aiming big here and there's a lot to be getting on with but I'm going to give myself the kick up the arse I need.

If I don't succeed, don't judge me.....I'm a nice person!

  1. Hi Steph, I am new to blogging, well personal blogging. I have been running a business for oaver 10 years, and used to blogging about work stuff, but frustrated by the lack of womens blogs talking about things relevant to me, have started my own. My goals are to get the readers of my blog up and to build my new company which I launched at the end of last year. Aside from that, I want to play the piano more and drink more water! Good luck with your goals and I will drop by to read more soon. Sarah aka. Tall Yellow Bird
