We love to go to the theatre and frequently visit our
city's ultra modern, high tech theatre, The Curve, Leicester and on Tuesday
this week went along to see the world premiere of a new musical called The
Water Babies. We were very excited as we'd had the tickets booked for some time
and had seen the adverts on the TV.
The production is inspired by Charles Kingsley's novel and uses some of the most sophisticated special effects ever seen on stage. I obviously don't want to spoil it for you (and the photos won't either don't worry) but it's based around Tom, an orphaned teenager who is framed for a crime he didn't commit. In a bid to escape he is trapped on the edge of a waterfall.
His only choice is to jump
into the depths of the ocean where he encounters a whole new world of enchantment,
danger and adventure. Desperate to get back to the girl he loves, Tom has to
brave underwater challenges and face his fears and believe anything is
possible.........
Nearly two and half hours later we emerged with the new
tunes in our head, ridiculously excited over what we had just seen. We were
blown away with how good it was. The
show was a true spectacular and totally spellbinding. The minute the show
started and the first notes were sung, Nick and I turned to each other and said
in unison 'this is so West End material'.
The cast are terrific, and oh, their voices! The songs
are the type that find a place in your head and you'll want to hear again and
again. I wish I had picked up a programme now as I believe it has a CD inside
with all the tracks from the show. Tom Lister from Emmerdale, Louise Dearman,
star of the West End, Lauren Samuels, finalist in the BBC1 show Over the
Rainbow and Tom Milner, from Waterloo Road, lead the talented cast with lots of
laughs for the audience along the way.

I now need to get some tickets for my daughter, who's
into amateur dramatics herself, and the fact is Nick and I need to go back
again too!
I believe the reviews will dictate if it goes to the West
End or not. If anyone is listening, Water Babies sure is one for the West End, so
what are you waiting for.
The shows runs is from 24th April-17th May. You should
book now as tickets are limited.
